The August Fix: Hidden Leaks, Simple Checks & Local Summer Fun

Small leaks can lead to surprisingly big problems—especially when they go unnoticed. This month, we’re sharing how a newly installed smart water shutoff helped uncover a hidden irrigation leak, along with a simple way to determine whether your toilet may be quietly wasting water.

We’ve also gathered local events, community highlights, a favorite local business and a little Fix It Funny to help you enjoy what’s left of summer. We hope you find something useful, something local and something that makes you smile.

A Smart Water Shutoff Uncovered a Hidden Leak—and Cut Water Use by 1,000 Gallons the Next Week

What Sacramento homeowners should know about leak detection, insurance requirements, installation, and potential savings.

Has your homeowners insurance company asked whether your home has an automatic water shutoff device? You are not alone.

McCray & Sons Home Services has recently helped homeowners in Sacramento and West Sacramento evaluate and install these systems. One customer needed an approved device to renew her homeowners insurance. Another was offered an insurance discount for installing one.

FIX IT FYI

Why Won’t My Toilet Stop Running?

If you’ve ever had a toilet that just won’t stop running, you know how frustrating it can be. And sometimes, it’s something you can spot or even fix yourself.

Let’s walk through what’s actually happening and what to look for.
